Pedal, Pack, or Hoof in Coyote Valley

Pedal, Pack, or Hoof in Coyote Valley

The agricultural Coyote Valley in north Morgan Hill is prime for multi-modal outdoor adventures!

The 4-mile loop trail at Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve is open to hikers, trail runners, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Tucked into the eastern slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains, just west of Morgan Hill, this trail has a balance of heart-pumping elevation changes and rewarding 360-degree scenic views. The “loop” keeps traffic going in one direction, which allows for a comfortable, distanced route and is reversed seasonally, keeping the perspective fresh.

Coyote Creek Parkway, operated by the County of Santa Clara, is another favorite ride, offering a smooth paved path along the mostly flat Coyote Valley floor. Winding about 7 miles from Morgan Hill to San Jose, the main path used by joggers and cyclists, while an equestrian trail parallels. Both hug the trickling creek and pass by ponds, frequented by migratory birds, and meadows of seasonal wildflowers.
