THE ARTS IN MORGAN HILL

PUBLIC ART

Art is beloved within the Morgan Hill community and there is public art throughout. The downtown parking garage is adorned with a giant tarantula sculpture and a stairway encased in glowing Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper panels. Peek around the corner and look up to spot our tribute mural to our agriculatural past and present.

GALLERIES & WORKSHOPS

Morgan Hill has a fine art gallery, featuring the creations of talented local and Bay Area artists of a variety of mediums. If you want to participate rather than just spectate, the gallery and DIY workshop offer local art classes to tap into your inner creative and bring home your own works of art. Morgan Hill will soon be celebrating the opening of a new fine art gallery, bejeweling the downtown in 2024.

PERFORMANCE ART

Morgan Hill also has a community playhouse, home to the South Valley Civic Theater (SVCT) and local symphony, which perform a range of shows throughout the year. SVCT is Resident Company of the Morgan Hill Playhouse, producing  5 shows a year, for a total of 50 performances and over 5000 patrons a year.  For more information about SVCT, visit https://www.SVCT.org. South Valley Symphony is the only symphony in South Santa Clara County, performing primarily at Gavilan College and also--at least once in their season--at Guglielmo Winery.

ART EVENTS

Many events celebrate and showcase local and regional art, such as Morgan Hill Open Studios, the Plein Air Paint Out, Morgan Hill Mushroom Festival. The Poppy Jasper International Film Festival is a crown jewel event featuring 260 film screenings, interviews, panels, and events over several days. The Film Festival occurs in Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and Hollister and hosts filmmakers from over 30 countries .

Markets and Pop Ups

If shopping art is your thing, you can find the pop-up Sidewalk Saturdays art and maker’s market downtown, as well as other local pop up retail events showcasing small, home-grown artists and businesses.
