Tarantula Trek!

Join us as we search for wild tarantulas at Rancho Cañada del Oro Open Space Preserve!

Join Open Space Authority docents for a slow, gently paced walk along Rancho Cañada del Oro's flat Longwall Canyon Trail in search of the elusive California ebony tarantula (Aphonopelma eutylenum). Learn about the tarantula’s amazing lifestyle and how these fascinating animals survive in the wild. Families welcome! Please bring water to drink and comfortable walking shoes.

Once you arrive, please park in the overflow parking area to meet your hike guide. The overflow parking lot will be about 200ft down the road from the main entrance on your left-hand side.
