About the Artist:

John Dorrance is a kinetic artist based in Morgan Hill.  Dorrance creates interactive sculptures using found objects that are motorized by electric pencil sharpeners. Many of his sculptures feature themes inspired by classic horror and sci-fi films of the 50s and 60s. John was also proactive with Santa Clara County Parks. In 2002, he became the 1st full-time Park Interpreter for the Bernal-Joice-Gulnac-Ranch and spent two-decades developing inspiring, nature and science based public programs for folks in the South Bay Community until his retirement in 2018. Many of his sculptures reflect his love of nature and teaching folks about our beautiful ecosystem. John was also a writer for the San Jose Mercury News and has been published in several magazines in the Bay Area. He has a permanent residence and studio space in the hills of Morgan Hill with his wife.
