New on the Food Scene in Morgan Hill

New on the Food Scene in Morgan Hill

Summer 2022

The food scene just keeps getting better in Morgan Hill, California! From TWO new food truck finds to a local pop-up caterer’s first brick-and-mortar location, Morgan Hill has 3 new options to celebrate! Thinking small and local, these new businesses are welcome additions to Morgan Hill’s food scene, and so delicious that we almost want to keep them a secret! We also love them for being BIG on collaboration and support for other local businesses. Read on…

Vegan Vendetta

Vegan Vendetta serves a 100% vegan “Mexican flavor with Bay Area swagger!” The menu is big on freshness, with bright ingredients and plant-derived protein bases for their tacos, burritos, tortas, wraps and bowls. The street tacos are a staple or you can get them ‘Depot style’ with additional toppings and sauces. They’ve even rolled out a West Coast Style “Bang Bang Lion’s Mayne” mushroom protein, sourced from Morgan Hill’s South Valley Mushroom Farm. You’ll want to keep an eye out their mouthwatering homemade cake specials as well!

Local Morgan Hill-raised couple, Michelle and Jayson, opened their dream business during the spring of 2022, but their story began long before that! Michelle has been vegan for 6 years and enjoys fusing cuisines to make vegan options for her family. Jayson had been working for his parents’ catering business for 6 years and took on the role of cook during the pandemic, practicing his skills with vegan food. They love Morgan Hill and knew they would go into business together, so lucky for us, they decided to open a food truck here! As with most food trucks, the best way to find out where Vegan Vendetta will be serving is to follow them on social media.

Dragon Lady Bakery

This inspiring, woman-owned business is here to serve your sweet tooth! Passionate Owner & Head Chef Renee had dreamed of opening a bakery for years, and eventually teamed up with Morgan Hill local, Angelina, and started the Dragon Lady Bakery cottage food operation. Things grew during the pandemic and they launched their food truck in the spring of 2022. Self-proclaimed “cupcake elitists,” their menu features specialty flavored pastries, always changing as they take inspiration from their customers and are super accommodating to dietary needs – because hey, gluten free and sugar free people need cupcakes too!

The cupcakes are made fresh daily, with cheeky names such as the “I like it, Picasso” pineapple cupcake with basil frosting and the 21+ “I'm sick of people touching my stuff!” whiskey cupcake with lemon frosting and a maraschino cherry topper. The delicious cakes are all frosted upon order. You’ll also find snickerdoodles, cream cheese thumbprint cookies, and classic chocolate chip in the case. If you’re thinking it can’t get any better than that… they just began carrying palettas from Morgan Hill-based La Playa Ice Cream Shop! They also do a rotating savory “munchie” item, like jackfruit birria tacos, as well as fresh-made lemonade. Watch their social media or visit their website for location schedule and special orders. They will be at Vines & Vibes Wednesdays at Guglielmo Winery and other select locations through the end of August.

Cochi’s Kitchen

You may already be familiar with Cochi’s sought-after “OG” fried chicken sandwiches, which made their rounds at pop-ups at the local brew pubs during the outdoor dining-pandemic times. You may have also been fortunate to attend one of their catered events, like the delectable multi-course Lion Ranch Vineyard winemaker’s dinner or the cherry-themed orchard dinner for the local Farm Bureau. They also provide spectacular catering options for weddings and other private parties. You name it, they can cook it!

Now, Cochi’s Kitchen has opened a full-time café located at the former Patty’s Perfect Pantry spot in Morgan Hill’s Vineyard Town Center. Cochi’s Kitchen focuses on made from scratch foods, BBQ, and high-quality smoked meats. Their menu features breakfast in the morning, and sandwiches, bowls, and salads with their delicious BBQ pulled pork, smoked bacon, and other meats. Even the “OG” sando will be making a comeback too, so you can get your “Trendy” or “Fast Franks” fix! The menu incorporates seasonal, locally-sourced produce, such as greens and veggies from Spade and Plow Organics. They also have a case of fresh baked pastries daily, and you’ll find guest appearances of other local products such as Matriarch Bread Company. Definitely check them out next time you want some satisfying local eats in Morgan Hill! Cochi’s Kitchen is open Wed-Sat 8am-2pm; Sun 9am-2pm (Closed Mon-Tues).
